What Certificates Do You Need to Import Arcade Machines?

Certificate problems become expensive when they appear after the machine has been chosen and the deposit is ready: the supplier cannot provide documents for the destination market, or the file covers a component instead of the exact machine. For first-time buyers importing commercial arcade machines from China, that can delay production, shipping, installation, and the venue opening.

The good news is that the issue is usually manageable when it is checked early. Before production, confirm the destination country and the exact model on the purchase order. Some factories build mainly for domestic sales and start testing only after an export order arrives. That is when a paperwork gap begins to push the schedule back.

U.S. Imports: Look Beyond "It Has UL"

For a U.S. buyer, "this machine has UL" is not a complete answer. A supplier may be referring to a UL-certified power cord, switching power supply, or electronic component. That does not automatically mean the complete arcade cabinet has the same coverage.

Before you approve the order, place four items side by side: the exact model, the manufacturer or certificate holder, the scope of the certificate, and the certificate number. If the file lists only one component, treat it as component evidence, not whole-machine evidence. Then check the number through the issuing body's official search page.

MOTO BLITZ DX shows what a useful file can look like. The SGS Certificate of Compliance identifies the product as a game machine, names MOTO BLITZ DX as the model, lists Guangzhou Wahlap Technology Corporation Limited as the certificate holder, and includes the applicable UL 22 and CSA standards. EU Imports: Match the CE File to the Machine

The common problem in an EU order is not the absence of a CE mark. It is a CE file that belongs to a different model, a different manufacturer, or only part of the machine. A label is easy to see; the supporting conformity and test documents are what allow a buyer to check the order.

For a commercial arcade machine, the file may address electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), and other applicable safety assessments. You do not need to read the file like a laboratory engineer. Start with the practical match: product model, manufacturer, report or certificate number, test scope, issue date, and validity date.

UK Imports: Confirm the UKCA

For a UK order, do not rely on the UKCA mark by itself. Confirm that the supporting file belongs to the exact machine and market. For Great Britain, the UKCA scope applies to England, Scotland, and Wales; Northern Ireland follows a separate arrangement.

The file may include LVD, EMC, and RoHS-related documentation. Check that the model, manufacturer, test items, and validity dates match the purchase order. This makes later conversations with the venue, insurer, installer, distributor, or acceptance team easier because everyone is reviewing the same machine.

Protect the Shipment From IP Risk

Product certificates can document testing and conformity. They cannot prove who owns a cabinet design, trademark, character, software, music, or game content. This matters when importing arcade machines from China because some products may have a similar appearance, similar gameplay, or several pieces of content combined into one cabinet.

A similar-looking cabinet is not automatically an infringement. The risk becomes more serious when protected elements are used without authorization. Customs inspection, import clearance, distributor review, and later sales can all be affected.

Before placing the order, ask the supplier for the documents that apply to the product:

· Product patent or design-right documentation.

· Trademark, software copyright, or work-registration documentation.

· International IP authorization or licensing documents.

Chinese domestic IP documents may show ownership or sales rights in China. They do not automatically grant rights in the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, or Canada. For a licensed product, ask one simple question: does the authorization cover the exact content, product, territory, and sales channel in this order?

Check the Supplier Behind the Certificates

A product certificate answers whether a particular machine has the expected market documentation. Supplier qualifications answer a different buyer question: can the factory build consistently, ship through established export processes, and support the machines after installation? Check both before you pay because a valid product file does not show how well the supplier will support the order.

ISO 9001 shows that a factory has a standardized quality management system. AEO is an official credit qualification and customs-clearance preference granted by the General Administration of Customs of China to qualified enterprises. China's AEO program has mutual-recognition arrangements with the European Union, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, and more than 40 other countries and regions.
